This will be an account of my time in Peace Corps. I will be in Mauritania, Western Africa from June 17, 2008- August 29, 2010. I will be doing Health Education and Prevention; working with the AIDS, malaria, and malnutrition epidemics. I've been keeping up with the news and it looks like most of the country is pretty unaffected by the coup. I guess remoteness and lack of infrastructure is a good thing sometimes.
Thats good to hear. I mean, honestly, it can't be very safe to be in the middle of a revolution.
How far is Jamie from Nouakchott?
Jaime is staying in Boumbry, which I believe is at least a few hours south of Nouakchott. I talked to her Tuesday and she said they are not well informed and the locals keep saying, "No problem." She thinks that the Peace Corps is the only humanitarian organizaiton left there for now. She does not want to leave!
